Renew the Replacement Levy for John Vanderzicht Memorial Pool and Clover Valley Park!
The District was formed in 1977 as the North Whidbey Park & Recreation District by a vote of residents aiming to build recreation facilities in the community. A bond was approved by voters in 1980 to finance the building of a pool. The John Vanderzicht Memorial Pool first opened in 1983.The District also owns and operates the Clover Valley dog park and ball fields located off Ault Field Road. The name was changed to the North Whidbey Pool, Park, & Recreation District (NWPPRD) by the Board of Commissioners in 2018 to better reflect the services offered.
NWPPRD operates as a Special Purpose District. A special purpose district is a limited purpose government separate from a city, town, or county government. Examples of special purpose districts are park and recreation districts, water & sewer districts, cemetery districts, diking districts, and mosquito control districts. The District follows the same boundaries at the Oak Harbor School District but is a completely separate entity. NWPPRD is governed by five elected volunteer commissioners who serve four year terms. All meetings of the board require public notice of the agenda, they are open to the public, and recordings are posted to YouTube. Regular board meetings are held once a month, typically on the 4th Thursday of the month at 6:00 PM
The District is in green. The red location denote district property.
Since 2020 the District has worked hard to begin offering recreational programming like Summer Day Camp, basketball leagues, Learn to kayak, pickleball. They are committed to expanding programming in the future.
